Event description: Telescopers! invites everyone to a Stargazing Party at the Spirit Mound parking lot. We will begin by observing the Moon and learning about different craters. When the sky gets completely dark, we will enjoy the lack of city lights and will try to spot some double stars. In addition, we will take a journey through the spring constellations and learn all about the ancient legends behind them! Physics students and faculty will be helping everyone to learn how to use our telescopes and take beautiful astronomical pictures with your own smartphones! If you have your own telescope or binoculars, feel free to bring them! Our event is open to people of all ages and backgrounds, and we hope you feel free to ask questions! Please note that we are not planning to bring the telescopes to the top of Spirit Mound and will only use them at the parking lot. Also note that the weather is never perfectly predictable and in case of rain or clouds our event might be rescheduled for Saturday, 20 April. Spirit Mound is 6 miles north of Vermillion on Highway 19. To learn more about amateur astronomy in Vermillion, visit the Telescopers! website.
