Restoring the Prairie
Spirit Mound (6 miles north of Vermillion on Highway 19)
Although we often associate tree planting with Earth Day, this Earth Days event is focused on removing young trees from the Spirit Mound prairie. Prairies are a type of grassland, and in order to remain as grassland, the trees must be removed. During this Earth Days event, we will be helping with one of the ongoing management activities at Spirit Mound: cutting down young trees.
The clippers and loppers will be provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own supplies.
We encourage you to consider carpooling to Spirit Mound. If you need transportation to Spirit Mound, please contact Meghann Jarchow (meghann.jarchow@usd.edu).
